Description

Event Details As we observe the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, we also celebrate America's music and the music of Charleston, both interwoven through conflict, culture and the notion that "All men are created equal". Come hear classical selections performed at concerts of The St. Cecelia Society from 1766-1820. Listen to gospel music in all its forms, dating from pre-revolution onward. Enjoy songs sung around the campfires in both the American Revolution and the Civil Wars as well as jazz, which had its early roots right here in Charleston. Perhaps no more Americana is the music of George Gershwin, who wrote the opera "Porgy and Bess" on nearby Folly Beach. From Gospel to Gershwin, Charleston's history and music are very much America's story. These live, 75 minute concerts presented by the area's finest professional musicians with educate, entertain, and evoke emotion in all who attend. Holiday Editions December 4, 11, 18, 23, 26, 30 See website for all show dates
