Description

Join us for The Art of Indigo, an artisan-level, two-day studio workshop led by artist and indigo practitioner Precious Jennings. Designed for participants seeking a more immersive and refined hands-on experience, this workshop explores the depth, history, and creative possibilities of natural dyeing through traditional and contemporary textile processes.

Precious Jennings brings a deeply rooted practice in indigo, fiber, movement, and sustainable making. Through her work with Align the Fibers, she explores the connections between land, material, process, and healing, with a focus on hands-on learning and Lowcountry indigo processing. Her approach invites participants to consider indigo not only as a dye, but as a living material connected to place, labor, memory, and creative transformation.

Across two days, participants will work with indigo dye vats, stitched and folded resist techniques, wood block clamping, soy milk inks, stamping, and brushwork. The workshop will include guided demonstrations, historical and cultural context, and open studio time for participants to experiment with technique, pattern, texture, and personal design.

Day one will focus on resist traditions and the indigo vat, including sewing, folding, clamping, dipping, and oxidation. Day two will build on that work through soy milk ink making, block printing, painting, and additional studio time to bring multiple techniques together into finished textile pieces.

This intimate studio experience is ideal for artists, makers, textile enthusiasts, and curious learners looking for a deeper creative workshop rooted in natural materials, historic processes, and hands-on craftsmanship.
