Description

In this hands-on workshop, participants will create a small bojagi window panel—a patchwork textile rooted in traditional Korean hand-sewing practices. Using repurposed natural fabrics, students will explore how color, memory, and light interact through layered cloth. The project invites quiet reflection, intuitive composition, and the slow, grounding rhythm of stitching. Participants will walk away with a luminous 4×5-inch panel that can be hung in a window or framed as a soft, abstract artwork.

Students will:

Learn the cultural and historical context of bojagi as an art form connected to daily life, generosity, and memory.

Understand how to compose patchwork using modular shapes, color relationships, and textile transparency.

-Practice foundational techniques used in bojagi, including:

-Ssamsol 쌈솔 | Flat-felled seam

-Gamchimjil 감침질 | Whip stitch

-Develop confidence in hand-sewing.

-Experience slow-making as a meditative, grounding practice.

-Become resourceful by using what you have around you to make something new.

Skill Level
