The short film “HOMEGOING,” created by Davóne Tines and directed by Julie Dash, seeks to answer the question: “What if a memorial was a monument to joy?” The 10-minute film, featuring Mother Emanuel AME Church and the Angel Oak Tree, visits IAAM from the groundbreaking ‘MONUMENTS’ exhibition curated by Hamza Walker, Bennett Simpson, and Kara Walker for the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA).

Singer and creator Davóne Tines will discuss the process of creating the film, recounting the artistic journey and creative process involving director Julie Dash, and his band THE TRUTH (John Bitoy, piano; Khari Lucas, sound artist).
