Curated by KELA, Crowned by the Roots showcases a collection of African American creations exploring the connection to self through hair. It acknowledges the unique journeys carried, including experiences of loss. Honoring the heritage of hair reflects intentional choices, with a cultural emphasis on lineage through community, leadership, legacy, and royalty. Participating artists will offer talks on their work from 11am-1:30pm on Saturday, February 7. A free public closing reception featuring panel discussions, spoken word presentations, a hair showcase, photo op, and DIY crown station will be held from 5-9pm on Friday, February 26
