EVERY PAW COUNTS: SOUTHERN PAWS ANIMAL RESCUE HOSTS 6TH ANNUAL 5K

Charleston, SC — Southern Paws Animal Rescue (SPAR) will host its 6th Annual Southern Paws Animal Rescue 5K on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens.

The annual 5K is a key fundraiser supporting SPAR’s mission to rescue and rehabilitate abused and neglected animals throughout the Lowcountry. Proceeds from the event directly support medical care, rehabilitation, and lifelong shelter for animals in need.

Southern Paws Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to saving animals who have suffered abuse and neglect and giving them a second chance at life. Founded by Lowcountry native and retired Mount Pleasant Police Department lieutenant Debbie McLawhorn, SPAR began as a dog rescue and has since expanded to help virtually all types of animals.

SPAR specializes in long‑term and special‑needs cases—animals that often require months of medical recovery due to severe neglect or abuse. The organization works closely with law enforcement agencies, advocating for animals in court and serving as their voice in the justice system. Animals rescued by SPAR are guaranteed safety and lifelong care, even if they are never adopted.
