Charleston by Design is Historic Charleston Foundation’s premier annual fundraising event, celebrating the intersection of design and Charleston’s historic character. Each spring, the multi-day experience convenes influential voices in architecture, interiors, preservation, and artistic design through a thoughtfully curated program set within some of the city’s most iconic historic spaces.
The weekend begins with the highly anticipated Opening Night Party at the Aiken-Rhett House Museum, where immersive installations, elevated hospitality, and dynamic design experiences create an unforgettable introduction to the celebration. At the heart of the program is the Design in Mind Lecture Series, featuring nationally recognized designers, architects, and cultural leaders in landmark venues including Second Presbyterian Church and the Charleston Design District.
Additional programming includes an exclusive home and design tour, guided architectural walks, intimate salon conversations, and curated showroom experiences that highlight Charleston’s evolving creative landscape while honoring its architectural and cultural legacy. Premium offerings such as the Insider’s Pass provide guests with behind-the-scenes access and elevated experiences throughout the weekend.
As a signature cultural event for Charleston, Charleston by Design attracts an engaged audience of domestic and international design enthusiasts, preservation advocates, philanthropists, and industry leaders from across the country. Proceeds directly impact HCF’s mission-driven work in preservation, advocacy, and stewardship of the Foundation’s historic house museums to preserve and sustain the best of Charleston.
