Description

In partnership with the Emancipation Proclamation Association and the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor, the International African American Museum invites you to join us for our 2026 Emancipation Day Celebration. The day begins with the Association’s annual Emancipation Day Parade departing from Burke High School at 11:00 a.m., followed by a full afternoon of complimentary admission, family-friendly activities, and interactive experiences that honor the enduring legacy of freedom at the IAAM.

Explore stories of emancipation across African American history, take part in hands-on creative workshops, reflect at the Tide Tribute, and enjoy heritage-inspired bites connecting food and freedom. Families of all ages are welcome to celebrate through art, history, and reflection.
